It's a mini USB plug. Most modern cell phones use a micro USB plug. Some older cell phones and accessories use the mini plug. The cable that comes with the PSR-800 for connecting it to your computer is a full size to mini USB cable and will work with either your computer or a car/home adapter.

In my office at work I have it connected to amplified computer speakers and again it works wonderful. It's my go-to scanner unless I leave home and head into a simulcast area and then I take my BCD396XT with me as well. If you are going to use it in a loud area you may want to try bluetooth headphones with a stereo bluetooth transmitter plugged into the headphone jack on the scanner it will do just fine.

Thanks, I was starting to wonder. Some of the posts I've read talked about having to use a amplified speaker. I was more concerned with the earphone setup. I happen to use a mono over the ear earphone that you used to find a most truck stops. They have fairly large speakers in them.

As far as the car goes, I have over 600 watts of JBL power with a auxillary input jack on the stereo head. That should be enough.

Yeah, I need to look into bluetooth transmitters & earphones.

Not every user's environment is equal; hence, there is no one answer that will satisfy everyone's need. For my use, when I am mobile at highway speeds in my sedan, I need amplification (unless I am using a Bluetooth earpiece). Further, I need more amplification than what is provided by Radio Shack's 21-130 communication speaker. If the audio level in "live" scan mode were as high as it is in "playback" mode the 21-130 would suffice for me. But it isn't, so I need a further boost. And I am not speaking ill of GRE nor Radio Shack; I'm merely suggestion that what works for some does not work for all.

eBay sells cigar lighter adapters that have a USB connector on them for less than $5. I've bought several and they all work fine.
