I think you can still buy them from Scannermaster for $1,560,000 or something like that.
Plus shipping.

Was just a matter of time,,hope out of stock dose not turn into an end of life process..
curious if this will effect future updates...

Until GRE Japan finds a new factory location they wont be able to manufacture or distribute any scanners. When the retailers run out, thats it, there wont be anymore, not even at Radio Shack... and their entire stock was nearly depleted a month ago.
As for firmware updates I believe GRE America is handling that.

You might care if service, spares and firmware updates suddenly evaporate overnight.
Nothing like owning an orphaned product when things start to break.
Of course, the fact that people are still prepared to pay $400 for an old RS Pro-96 on ebay shows that there are planty of suckers for unsupported and obsolete tech out there.

I may sell my 800 before long. I'm getting concerned about the lack of support & etc that seems to be showing it's ugly head. I'm kind of wanting a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet a little worse.

No, I wont' care a bit..................the scanner works just fine, the " firmware updates" are only cosmetic-----
I still have 20 yr old scanners sitting on my desk that work fine (no such thing as "firmware updates" for them) I have one that is 30 yrs old that has been "orphaned" for close to 20 yrs. It works for what it was designed in the 1970's
Nope, I won't care

Let us know if they tell you anything other than production is halted and they don't know when they will get more in stock.

I'll second that: it's sad that this is happening because they had some darn good radios in there Line up..

Oh so the firmware they released that enabled P25 Phase II TDMA decoding, making it the only scanner to date that decodes Phase II...that was just "cosmetic", huh?

yep..............I don't use it a bit since I have no Phase II systems...............if one shows up ok
but in the grand scheme of things ................if GRE goes tits up I still have a working scanner that I can use and using the EZScan software I can put any frequencies I want in the scanner should GRE stop using the RR database
I come from a time where most radio's and scanners didn't get upgraded................when they no longer worked on a new system ---you bought one that did. If there wasn't one available---------------you did without
Price....................back in the 1970's a $200 (my first direct entry scanner cost $240 in 1976) scanner was much more expensive that a GRE at $400 or even $600 is today.
If you want the piece of equipment---------------you pay the going rate
I waited for several years to get a digital scanner when my local pd went digital because I didn't like the Uni dens that were available. When one of the areas went to a simulcast system the Unidens didn't' really work on the system but the GRE does fairly well.
If the GRE's die-----------------I'll find another at some time that works
I still don't think GRE is going to go away.................

Ah, so because there are no Phase II systems near you, the firmware was insignificant window dressing...gotcha. I'm sure the countless people who are now able to monitor Phase II systems because of that "cosmetic" update would strongly disagree, however it's clear that you simply don't care so there's no point in arguing with you, especially since your logic is flawed from the start.
