Default psr 800 power on routine

I read somewhere that before you plug in the psr800 to an external power source you should turn the scanner off first. Is this true?

Yes.....ALWAYS power the unit off before you plug it in or unplug it. Otherwise, data corruption may happen.

Does that also apply to the PSR-500?

No, entirely different animal than the 800.

I almost never turn my 800 off before connecting or disconnecting external power. I have never had data corruption. I fail to see why the data on the SD card would be corrupted by powering or un-powering the radio using the USB cable but not by turning off the scanner.

Well, it's right there on pages 26 -27 of the manual:

"To prevent corruption of MicroSD Card data, always power the PSR-800 off using the front panel button before connecting or disconnecting external power sources."

I'm reasonably sure that the engineers who designed it know what they're talking about, and that's simple advice that I'm certainly going to follow. Besides, the cost of replacement is nearly double what I paid for mine and it's still under warranty. Enough said..............

You've been VERY lucky.....

I never used to release my USB thumbdrives either - until one got corrupted....
