Hi all...I've had my 500 for 2-3 years now, and I see there are some firmware upgrades out there for the scanner. I'm not having any issues, so should I do the upgrade or just let it go? Thoughts, opinions?

The GRE America web site list two firmware updates for the PSR-500 ( GRE America, Inc. - Powered By Kayako SupportSuite ). They are the U2.0 and U2.1, however only the U2.0 list what's changed. If these changes are not important to you and you're happy with the scanner the way it is, I see no pressing reason to update.

However, I would suggest that you at least download the firmware updates (they're packaged in a zip file). Just in case you need them in the future and GRE's web site goes away.

You have nothing to lose by upgrading the firmware. The file will not damage or lock up the scanner as long as power is maintained while performing the upgrade.

I went ahead and did the update. I figured I might as well...one of the few things in life that are still free. Thanks for the responses.

In the download section, the last 3 links that say PSR-500/600 CPU firmware 2.0 and 2.1, and the PSR-500/600C (Canadian), those are the updates. They don't say "update", but that's what they are.

Correct. When you see the OP says he has had the radio for 3 years and never done an update, it seems as though he was not aware or did not know about them. That's why RDG explained how to find them and what they offered.

For the OP - this is new info.

My 500 is still running on 1.6 or somesuch. I just don't have a computer with which to download the 2.0 or 2.1. I need to find someone local who's willing to help me with that.

Yep the firmware is from 2012 as they are 'the latest, current updates' and undoubtedly the last in reference to GRE 's situation.

Ia 500. My screen shows uP App1 V2.0, DSP App V1.4 , and DSP Voc 1.0.. The label say PSR-500, SN 002021. I am trying to upgrade to CPU 2.1, The computer recognizes it, tells me I have 2.0 loaded, but will not upgrade to 2.1. The USB cable works fine with ARC 500. What am I doing wrong?
