Question Walmart

Has anyone noticed that Walmart seems to be carrying a large chunk of the Whistler products (radar detectors and inspection cams) in thier stores now? I wonder if they will carry the new scanners in store? Seems kind of odd that they have the other products all of the sudden.

Haven't noticed that but Walmart does seem like a more promising outlet for Whistler products than the moribund Radio Shack.

not sure about that.. whistler products are guaranteed to be in radio shack stores according to this thread.

Whistler Group acquires GRE's assets to manufacture Radio Shack scanner product line

Nobody has heard anything for sure regarding wal mart carrying whistler made scanners...

Some of us have waited YEARS for new technologies... Somehow we on these forums can't wait 1-3 MONTHS??!!!! Whistler promised their first units would be available in the first quarter of 2014. Hmmm,... 2014 is HERE in 2 weeks?!!! And a quarter is 3 Months.... That means by MARCH 2014. "Have patience or BE a PATIENT."....

That was one of my grandfather's fav quotes... If you don't understand what it refers to, then I will pray for you.

But it would be nice if they would give us a hint as to what's coming and how they will look. Throw us some kind of bone Whistler.

Patience is a virtue that a lot of us don't have.As for me I'm as patient as the next guy but as I will never have a digital radio all I can do is dream.

Exclamation Re: Any info on when Whistler

The Whistler WS1080 (old PSR-800) and WS1095 (new PSR-900) are slated for the SECOND quarter of 2014.

This CES blurb will also give a rundown of the actual Whistler models numbers.

enjoy,
swman

Thank you for posting that swman. I think I can wait a few extra months to see about the 1040 and 1065. I'm not in a super rush, but I am pretty anxious to see these when they finally come out on the market. I don't "need" Phase II capabilities in my area so having the 1040 or 1065 isn't really a necessity, but I'd still like to see them and decide if I'd "like" to have one.

Default Any info on when Whistler

The million $$ question, will Whistler support the older/current GRE & Radio Shack scanners. They don't have to if they don't want to. Whistler would not make any $$ on supporting older GRE/Radio Shack scanner. Whistler would be more apt to concentrate on their new line of products, than support someone else's discontinued product.

Do you mean like software and adapters and such? Or for repairs? It would be nice if they did so I wouldn't have to buy new software, but you're right. For their bottom line it would be better for them to "start fresh" so to speak and develop their own stuff. Time will tell.

Thumbs up Whistler scanner line

Nice to see there will be another choice for X2TDMA Phase-II scanners before long. Having competition out there makes it better for all concerned but I don't know if Whistler will eventually be servicing GRE stuff or not but I would imagine it depends on the terms of exactly *what* Whistler bought from GRE, something no one seems to really know at this point.

I'm glad to see GRE's former efforts will at least be carried on in some form by it's new owners. Would have been a real shame if all their past work ended with the PSR-800

Talking Radio Shack "back to the 80s" campaign

I recently saw a commercial whereby Radio Shack *claims* they're taking things back to the 80's. They featured a slew of 80's figures of the period as their original characters using that retro look. Of course, back then the shack carried not just one or two scanners, but an entire line of them, not to mention all the amateur radio stuff they had back then. Then there was the expanded line of electronic components they once carried . . .

Something tells me about the only "back to the 80s" we're gonna see out of the shack is a bunch of posters being put up in every store and they'll call it a day because I can't see them going back to the Radio Shack of the 80's that I remember

Actually, it was about getting out of the 80's. The store after it was cleaned out sure didn't have that 80's look

Actually, the message of that commercial was that RS was getting rid of the '80s feel and look, not going back to it.

It was a very confusing message to say the least. The commercial got very good reviews as a Super Bowl ad for it's creativity, but left consumers wondering, and very confused as to what the actual message was that they were trying to get across.

Thumbs down

That leaves us with cell phones, blue tooth speakers, and associated cell phone accessories. I just read that they are closing 500 more stores.

I was hoping for a turn around and back to more of what Radio Shack had to offer in the 80's.

Let's hope Whistler and Uniden can continue to do business with them.
