What Gre software version are you using? I would program it for you but I think the gre 500 software is different.

My software is ARC500. Doubt it will work. I would Google and Bing every driver possible and download them. Pain in the rear but necessary when a company is destroyed by a title wave.

Other possibilities. Contact Whistler. Alinco repaired my 500. They might know which driver.

Question Maybe this will work??

I am having the same problem with my PRO-18 scanner. I found this download on Radio Shack download website. I am going to try it tonight.

RadioShack® USB-PC Interface Cable for GRE Scanner

USB Scanner Programming Cable

Both are downloads.

Not with a Win 7 machine.

I've been using my old school 32 bit XP with SP3.

None of the suggestions worked for me. Friend of mine is going to buy my scanner. Think I will look at the Bearcat 436HP. Might be a bit easier to use and hopefully no issues updating.

Smile It could be a comm port mix up

Have you checked the device manager and checked on the comm port? The scanner could be looking for one port while the pc wants to use the other port. You can change the ports in the device manager.

If the OS does not recognize the device via the USB cable then there will be com port assigned.

I see the 800 in device mgr as unknown and have tried many ways to load the driver and it does not like it.

I've removed the device, re-installed.

Just a thought (I don't use Windows 8) but can you run EZScan in Win 8 as a Windows XP compatible program and if so will it then recognize the scanner?

The USB file is the same one found on the GRE site and does not work. The other is a scanner interface program and there is a new update.

Default GRE 800

No driver is needed because the cable is a regular USB type. There is no chip involved. I just loaded the software onto my Win 8.1 machine, plugged in the scanner with a stock USB cable and it works perfectly.

I thought the same thing but what would cause any Win 7 64 I've tried machine not to see the PSR-800 and it shows up as an unknown USB device ?

1. Should I install the EZ software first, launch, then plug the USB cable with 800 attached ??

OR

2. Install the USB cable with 800 attached, then install the EZ software ??

Why doesn't it see the device ?

Thanks.

I use one of any of the 5 or 6 cables I have that fit the scanner when I hook it up.................I bought them off of Ebay because of the angle of the mini USB connector & the way it inserts into the scanner

I have never found a cable that won't work

you are having a port problem not a cable problem

By “new LT” are you referring to a GRE PSR-800 scanner?

Shawn
Already tried this as well.

Still no luck with Win 7, still using XP 32bit machine.

Any more ideas ??
