Having never tried it before, I thought I would format an 8GB card while it was in this PSR-800. 24 hours later we're at 80%... is this normal? I did the OVERWRITE erase using the sd formatter utility...

Agreed ... anyone that has a scanner that runs on an SD card really needs to spend the $5 and buy a USB card reader.

Formatting and then programming for the PSR800 done in the EZScan software, all of about 10 seconds to do the whole process.

Just as a reminder .. there are some SD cards that will not work in these scanners no matter how hard you try. I have several of them.

Btw .. even using the SDFormatter you do not need to do the whole erase thing .. a quick format is all that is needed. 5 seconds and done.

You are not the only person to try this and it is very normal for it to take forever doing it in the scanner.

Would someone actually read my post & please answer the question? Am I the only person to try this?

The fact of the matter .. you do not need to do what you are doing. So it is up to you to continue .. but you can accomplish the same result in seconds.

Your time though ..

I do this all the time with a very old computer and 24 hours even with the scanner is too long.It should take 5-10 minutes(go eat lunch) to read write with the GRE800.You may want to use the Radio Shack Pro668 program instead,to me it works better, format the card with the program first.Do not try and use the Radio Shack Program for Firmware updates.

Thanks, normally I just use a reader like all these previous posts mentioned. I just wanted to see how bad it was & it turned out to be 27 hours for an 8GB OVERWRITE erase - USB2 to PSR800. I haven't checked the specs on the card. It took 10 minutes to use the built-in card prep, library copy, & config copy using the native software. Only 3-4 minutes using a reader. So I knew formatting would be longer but that just seemed to take to long. Now I'm left wondering why, is something wrong with this scanner? Otherwise, it seems to be running very well.

too long

When ya format you should shut off antivirus and all other things that could slow it down, most computers have 47 toolbars loading at startup, that will slow anything down!

I don't think once it got to a half hour that I continued. I think I bailed and went directly to an SD card reader and never went back.

LOL, it's a patience thing... I wanted to see how long - so I used a system that just sits & serves me data from my 436. If I only had 1 PC - I would have given up much sooner...

24 hours is more than patience for me. I would have to be passed out.

+1,000 on that! I did it that way exactly once, not long after getting my first SD card scanner (Pro-18). It took somewhere under 10 minutes...when I saw that it wasn't going to happen in under a minute, I left the computer and when I got back it was done. Got a reader shortly after that, haven't done an in-scanner format since.

By the 30 minute mark I'd have been pulling it. Even on a very slow machine it shouldn't take 27 hours.
