Advanced Settings
Is there somewhere that defines what the advanced settings are for and how to use them? I am not seeing them in the manual but maybe I am just blind and stupid after a long day lol. See the attached screen shots from PSREdit and WIN500 to see what settings I am refering to.

Official documentation for these settings seems pretty sparse. I had consolidated all of the help text notes, defaults and Win500/PSREdit naming into one Excel sheet. Maybe we could turn this into a sticky and once some of these settings are better understood and documented, this information could be transferred to the Wiki. At this point I've only seen a handful of references to changing some of these settings. I've done a little experimentation myself, but had not been able to do much further exploration.
Edit: I created a Google Document spread sheet, so that actually may be easier, refer to this link: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...8v1IamIGWMrKFw

Very helpful - is there any chance it could be annotated further to give a more a little more elaboration in less technical terms?

Ok, I have updated my PSR-500 Expert Settings spread sheet with a Description column and my interpretation of what the settings mean based on the exploration I have done up to this point.

I also had a couple settings that I was not quite sure on, if folks could review and have a good description for those, that would be great. Also if any of the descriptions do not make sense or seem to conflict with what the setting is actually doing, let us all know.

Does anybody have any futher details in regards to the "Max Tunes" setting (Max tunes before complete RF HW update.)? I have tried experimenting with both the high and low values, but I'm not observing any performance variation with the radio to tell what this is really doing.
Also the "ZM Delay" I figure has something to do with Zeromatic delay but I was not really able to see what was impacted by changing these settings. Does anybody have a good idea for a description for this setting?
Also I am not really sure how to describe the "Noise Thresh" option. Still not really sure exactly what it is doing. At this point it seems like it could be the number of noisy 'bits' that the scanner will allow prior to retuning or adjusting with the DSP. I have had better results with a lower value from some basic testing.
Thanks,
Jeff

I used Excel 97 originally.
Let me correct above.
Originally saved in Excel 2007, then "saved as" Excel 97. Thus I have it in both formats which appropriately gives credit to jeffreypryor and date of his project three times in notations at bottom of page.

I don't see anywhere on the web page to save it. Do you open the web link from Excel?

If you have Excel 2007 (and I've heard 03 will do this also).
To start, With the Advance Settings web page open, click in and copy the URL
1. Run Excel 2007 (maybe 2003) and Click Data
2. Click From Web icon--this will open a "New Web Query" to your Internet home page.
4. Double click the Blue new web query bar to expand fully.
5. Paste this copied URL into the New Web Query URL then click Go.
6. Click yellow arrows next to (each click will turn the arrow to a green check mark)
a) PGM + FUNC + F3
b) Spectrum Sweeper
c) Motorola Trunking
7. Click Import (lower right corner)
8. Click OK in "Import Data" dialog
You may need to do a little editing.
If your Excel is older (97), you will need to copy and paste from Jeffery's page. Each column will need to be adjusted using this method.

Which, of course, means nothing, since the text wasn't theirs to copyright. (The original author held the copyright to his text as soon as he saved it to disk.) Technically, RS is in violation of the original author's copyright, if they copied his "work" verbatim.

FRIENDS: I have a Pro-106,I have used my scanner to pick up my local PD and FD. I live in East Ridge which is right next to Chattanooga.Chattanooga is Digital, East Ridge Is Analog and they both use trunking systems. My objects use to come in so clear&crisp, but now I get a lot of pop's crackles, background static.I do not know what I did or what went wrong. I do know on the display screen on the second line two letters (DG) WOULD APPEAR.Now the letters (VC) APPEAR...This may have nothing to do with my problem..I am lost I did Initalize and reprogram + a new (same kind) antenna...I am getting discouraged with my failing attempt to find the problem. i would like to adjust the zeromatic function currently I think it is off,...I am sorry for the long post...I AM DESPERATE ....In Advance Thank You for all the help...
