We use the Motorola XTS5000 handhelds and the XTL5000 mobile radios, both of which sound great. If you have a scanner that allows you to adjust the P25 decode setting, change it from auto to 8 and it should sound great.

I have a GRE PSR 600 and it sounds perfect on all channels and agencies in P-25 mode. It really sounds as good (quality-wise) as analog. By that I mean the audio is crisp and highly defined. I regularly listen to LAPD, Montebello PD, LA Harbor Police, Verdugo Fire, the audio really sounds good on both my units. I also monitor both at base and in the mobile.
