Default Orange County CC CHP

Are all three areas using the 700Mhz now?

I can only pick up traffic for the Green (San Juan Cap) channel, but still on the older 39-42 Mhz stuff for the other two.

Is that how its supposed to be or am I doing it wrong?

Matt

If I'm understanding your question, only the extenders are moving to 700 MHz.
The lowband stuff is staying put. The project is still ongoing, but each office should have a car or 2 with the new package at the very least, but it seems like I've seen quite a few more lately.

I guess I am ignorant to how everything is supposed to work, or more specifically what i need in my scanner in order to not miss anything.

are the extender freq going to be the most reliable thing to scan, or should just keep everything in

bigmattyl:

All you need to monitor is the low band channels. I've had all the 700 Mhz channels plugged into my scanner for several months; I've never heard any 700 Mhz traffic in my area, which is the South Los Angeles and Westminster offices. My location is about a mile from the 605 and 405 freeways. Before the migration to 700 Mhz, 154.05 Mhz was easily heard at my location.

oh ok.. so the 700Mhz is only between a CHP handheld and his unit.. and then from there the unit transmits back to dispatch over the 39-42 mhz system.. did i read that right?

The Low Band system is the primary radio system. The 700 Mhz is for the mobile extenders. The area offices have 700 Mhz capability too. It may be that in the future there will be some capability to communicate directly over 700 Mhz between the field units and the local office. You might want to post a question in the Sacramento area board since there have been many reports regarding the 700 Mhz system around the Sacramento area.

I recently heard a pursuit in L.A. County and the dispatcher told all the units to switch to a 700 Mhz channel, however, all additional pursuit traffic was also heard on the Low Band system. The pursuit was in the Valley, too far from location hear any radio 700 Mhz traffic, so I assume the 700 Mhz channels are not repeated in L.A. County. That pursuit involved units from L.A. and San Bernardino CHP.

ScottyHetzel:

Yes, 154.905. I haven't heard that in a while though, and, Indio CHP is getting ready for the changeover out by you.

The new Red-2, 45.04, PL ? and Blue-2 Border East 44.98, PL 146.2 There have been so many PL changes we'll have to wait to see what tone is used. The central valley just changed a bunch of PL's in the past couple of weeks, so I'm reluctant to guess which tone will be used anywhere. For now, I'm entering the search mode for the PL's.
