LAPD - Citywide Dispatch Feed
I am here in LA at my uncles house for xmas and I notice his scanner is none stop foot pursuits and gang shootings etc etc but none of the LAPD feeds pick this up.. I listen to his scanner in his living room while having these LAPD feeds up and they are pretty much silent compared to his scanner.. What is up with that? I would say 90% of what i hear on his scanner is not even heard on any of the LAPD feeds.

It might be more helpful if you mentioned where you are, and which channels you're hearing this on. LA is a big place!

It was North Hollywood what is showed.. I will ask when he gets home from work but I hear all sort of calls going out that is not being heard on the feeds.. Right now I am listening to a guy with a gun hiding in a persons building that is a suspect in a robbery none of the feeds is covering this. Also hearing a man hitting a cop and ran into a super market and they are about to go in to look for him. None of this is being heard on the feeds.. All I hear from the feeds is the calls none of what the police is saying once they get there or talk to dispatch

Wouldn't that mean that the "feeds" are not the same channels that you are hearing the action on ?
You haven't stated exactly what channels or frequencies the "feeds" are or what channels the action is on.

I think there is "too much" on that feed and that is why you are missing traffic.
The more stations it scans the more likely it is to be locked on one, while you miss everything else.
Also feeds are dispatch only. Tactical and on-scene channels can not be streamed.

Yes, that feed is wonderful if you just want to hear a lot of random hot calls for 21 patrol and four traffic divisions, but pretty useless if you want to follow a specific incident.

I think it is better to be bored than to live where the action is occurring. Before my mother passed away 18 months ago, I took many trips down there per year. I can't tell you how often PD helicopters orbited over the area her house was in. This in a relatively safe part of the city on the west side. I've had two freeway pursuits a mile ahead and behind me, with the one behind me making me quite nervous as weapons had been brandished at law enforcement and other drivers. L.A., the last time I heard, is the bank robbery and pursuit capital of the U.S.
Having lived in rural areas for 40 years my wife and I reach the town of Mojave we become anxious about freeway driving and the population density. After a couple of days I get used to the rhythm of the freeway driving and listen to all the action and figure others live there without a large dose of anxiety each day. Southern California is full of some great people and we have a lot of friends who live there. We definitely have to raise our guard while there though. We actually enjoy ourselves while we are there but feel better when we are north of Mojave and headed home.
I will admit the action is entertaining until I think of those who are victims, knowing that something similar could happen to us. Much of the radio traffic results from people who have no conscious and morals; the ugly underbelly of humanity. If you think about what you are hearing the "entertainment" value lessens. Oh well, my wife tells me I think about things more than I should!
Enjoy getting back to southern hospitality!

Set up a feed at your uncle's house!
Since I am local I don't listen to feeds much, but it seems to me there used to be better ones. Setting up a feed takes a lot of dedication, money too if you are on a limited budget.
ExSmokey's comments are right on.....the things that gnaw at me these days are the loud motorcycle pipes, cars with fart-can exhaust packages, which in turn set-off the vibration sensors in car alarms in the neighborhood.

Just to chime in here (I provide the feed), there are specific channels that you're probably listening to that like one of the previous posters pointed out probably gets drowned out in the other citywide radio traffic. If you have a scanner and let it sit on the LAPD Dispatch-North Hollywood Division channel then you'll likely hear more on those local incidents and specific information because all of that radio traffic will happen mostly on that channel (and the corresponding North Hollywood simplex/car to car channel).
The LAPD Citywide Dispatch feed was setup to serve the broadest listener base and provide the most non-stop action for those listeners. With that in mind, I decided to let the scanner continuously scan the dispatch channels for all divisions, as well as the Hot Shots/Code 3/Air & K9 channels because all of this together usually provides the most exciting listening experience. While I agree that following a specific incident in your specific area might be harder, it is a trade off that is worth making so the overall user base doesn't get stuck listening to things in North Hollywood.
I used to provide a separate Van Nuys division feed for that exact reason (I live in that division's area and wanted to follow specific local traffic more closely, but there were seldom more than 5 listeners and ended up just buying another scanner to cater to my own listening). With the LAPD Citywide Dispatch feed setup the way it is presently, it is continuously either the #1 or #2 most popular feed and while I'm always open to suggestions to create the best feed possible, I think that it is doing a good job at the moment.
Lastly, as per RadioReference's TOS, I am unable to stream the Car to Car/Simplex channels AND also the Tactical Channels, both which significantly will cut down on the amount of incident specific chatter. For example, when chasing a suspect, in North Hollywood, with air support etc... after the incident is dispatched, if it is a ongoing situation much of the traffic will switch to the Car-to-Car or Valley Tactical channels(both cannot be broadcast), this way they do not tie up the regular dispatch channel. This could also explain why you're not hearing it on the feed.
hope this helps.
