Default LA Area ambulance companies

Many of the ambulance companies in the LA Area are contracting for trunked radio services.

Does anyone know which companies are on what systems? What is the info for those systems?

continuing on this note: does anyone have any station info for any of these firms?

why didn't you submit any of these systems to the database?

in short,

it stands for Private Line, motorola's trademark for its implimentation of Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System (CTCSS)

for scanner listeners, it serves a limited role or function, and can only be programmed into certain scanners

for a longer explanation, please hit search (the forums)

I didnt realize this was such an old thread, but I happened to spend 2 hours in a Westmed/McCormick ambulance this past month and noticed some things.

The dispatches for patient transfers, etc were done to both crew members via alphanumeric pager. The only information broadcast over the radio (which read SFV 3) was unit number and beginning miles, and ending miles. The driver also used his Nextel while outside the rig. In fact, the only traffic I did hear on the rig radio were unit numbers and mileages.

Since there was a lot of waiting, I was asking questions of the crew, they stated that they worked all over the LA Basin depending on call volume. They stated that they were dispatched to a call for LA County Fire in West Hollywood very early in the morning, and it took 12 minutes to respond code from The Valley to the incident. They said that W Hollywood removed the Westmed ambulance base from W Hollywood after neighbors kept complaining about idling ambulances, sirens at 3am, attendants washing their rigs. So if there are more calls than the unit assigned 24/7 to W Hollywood, they would most likely be responding from the No Hollywood base.

Anyway, it would explain why there is so little to hear on those trunk systems listen above thread. I should have brought my Close Call but didnt think to.

Mick, In reviewing your extensive list I noticed that Schafer and Goodhew are no longer listed. Have they been acquired by AMR?

Thanks

Goodhew became AMR
Schaefer is still on 47.58 and operates along the SR-210 corridor and into Pomona area for 911, and all over LA for IFTs. Schaefer also runs Gold Cross ambulance in Imperial County as the paramedic service in that area.

I just logged today that 47.58 Schaefer is being simulcast on 463.0375R D114, making it easy to monitor the mobiles from 47.58 MHz.

How is ol' Walter Schaffer doing these days? I got my first advanced first aid card from him back in '68 at the main office in Hollywood.

Realize that if you were riding in their non-emergency transfer vehicle, their frequency isn't going to have much radio traffic at all...I believe they also have spotty coverage in that area, so it would make sense to use their Nextels and pagers more.

If you could get their trunking frequencies for their Inglewood / Lennox / Hawthorne / Willowbrook / County Watts area, I'm sure it would be a lot busier. FD has constant calls in those areas, especially warm Saturday nights. For each FD EMS call, there has to be an ambulance dispatch call...

Default McCormick Ambulance

McCormick / Westmed Ambulance operates 3 dispatch positions covering 911 and IFT. 2 of the positions are dedicated 911 and the 3rd handles 911 and IFT. It's not unusual for over 200 calls to be dispatched out in a day. All calls receive a page and voice confirmation via radio or nextel (90% radio) Nextel traffic occurs when the crew is away from the ambulance followed by radio traffic when they return to the unit. 5 repeater sites give us pretty good coverage. We also operate on the Redondo Fire dispatch channel for all calls in Redondo Beach.

I'm surprised nobody has asked what an "IFT" is. That's not a standard term in EMS across the country, so even most medics wouldn't recognise it, much less the average scanner listener.

McCormick is used by LA County. Also a LTR system
471.2500 LCN 01
472.5750 LCN 06

0-06-020 "Carson"
0-01-015 "Hawthorne"
0-01-018 "Hawthorne"
0-06-003 with an address in West Hollywood.

Hawthorne seems to cover Inglewood, Gardena and Marina Del Rey and more.
I also think I heard an address in West Hollywood.
Still trying to find the info. on McCormick in the Malibu/Calabasas/Agoura
area.
It's difficult to find the "Go To" alternate frequencies as the licensees
will use frequencies from several
licenses to make a LTR system.

Smile McCormick Ambulance

Each of the 5 repeater sites has 10 channels (About 40 freqs each) of operation split amongst 3 dispatch zones. Hawthorne, Carson, and Central. Channels on each site include Dispatch, Tactical, and Supervision channels. Dispatchers will often utilize TAC freqs for primary dispatching depending on situation.

Last night I met a friend who works for Priority One Medical Transport. She said they work in Orange County area, sometimes Los Angeles and rarely Riverside County area. She does not know anything about the radios they use, but I was getting her hooked on the scanning hobby.

Does anyone have the correct frequencies for Priority One?

She said no matter where they are dispatch is usually always clear but sometime car-car is very un-clear. I think they may be off of Mobile Relay Assosiates but would be great for someone to verify any info. Thanks!
