I would like other opinions on what the scanner Public feels is the very best software for programming the pro-106

Because of the length of this post, it is in 3 parts

Part 1

This is a hard one to answer because each has features that make them somewhat different and easier to learn and use, or not.

For the record, I can only speak to PSREdit and Win500. These were the two I evaluated for my needs because I found the Butel ARC software difficult to find for a trial in my timeframe compared to those two I did test.

Anyway, PSREdit preformed very well, was pretty intuitive and had a decent help file in it. That help file made it quite a bit faster to learn. It had good functionality across the board and I was able to upload to it, make substantial changes to my channels, and download back to the scanner pretty quickly. Any questions I encountered were usually answered in the help files.

Part 2

Win500 was more difficult to learn and involved a lot of trial and error to learn exactly what various fields and changes were doing to my data. The hardest part was learning how to put various scan lists together as the software is not intuitive on assigning and selecting scan lists. There are no help files so again it's trial and error. There is some help in he Wiki but not much.

That said, my choice was Win500. This was primarily due to some of the extra features in that package, specifically the ability to record select audio on the computer from the scanner. Also, as I became more familiar with the package, you pretty much have everything you may want to "mess with" in the software.

Part 3

All three of the authors/companies for these top packages are regular contributors in the forum and typically respond quickly to questions and operational parameters in question. The pricing is pretty much consistent between them in the $30+ range. You'll find a pretty good cross section of users in the forum, most of whom are willing to help you understand the various products. Win 500 however appears to be the most popular package though by users.

A strong suggestion is to take advantage of each of the package's free 30 day trial. Play with them, learn them and then make your choice on what works best for you.
