Default LPE-200 Radio Programming Questions

Hi All,

I'm fairly new on programming EDACS system using ProGrammer and I have some questions:

1. In ProGrammer, I go to SETS, Trunked Frequency Set, I create a new Freq. Set and I need to enter the transmit frequency. Why is it asking me to enter the transmit and then the Receive goes in automatically (grayed out, cannot put anything manually in there). I want to make sure I don't transmit, just want to listen?

2. In Group Sets, click on New Edacs..., then select 01, enter name, group id (talkgroup), only check Receive & Scan. Is that OK?

3. Then on the Systems tabs, select Add System, go the EDACS tab, Trunked Set I select the SET created in #1, Group Set I select the SET created in #2, Site I put the site number in decimal found on the RR DB and for the LID what do I put in?

sorry for all these questions, but programming a EDACS system using an LPE is so different then my Uniden scanners so I don't want to make any mistake and get into problems!!!!

thx all,

r0ot5

Hello,

Some answers to your questions.

1. Trunked Frequency Sets are always programmed based upon the TX input frequency for the system. This is just how it is always done in an EDACS radio. In 800 MHz these frequencies are -45 MHz down from the repeater output. You are correct to be a little scared about this, because your radio will always know the correct input frequency for the system.

2. To set a talkgroup for RX only, in the group set make sure you only have RX and Scan selected. This will prevent the radio from attempting a group call if you press the PTT. However it will not prevent the radio from performing other TX actions on the system. For example if your system administrator checks your radio status in the CSD the radio will still respond even though you have flagged the talkgroup RX only.

3. The LID that you put into the radio is the one assigned by your EDACS system manager. You will need to be assigned an LID.

If you need further assistance I would highly recommend calling the TAC. They are amazing for providing this kind of support. 1-800-528-7711. You have paid $2500+ for ProGrammer after all, and they are there to help.

Cheers,
SD.

What I wanted to add, to smackdaddy's comments, was that if this is to be a RX only, you must go into the "Power Up Options" menu and un-check "EDACS/EDACS IP Auto Login." If you aren't assigned a LID by the system admin(because you are just using the radio as a glorified scanner/receiver) and you have this box checked, when you turn the radio on(and change talkgroups) the radio will transmit the LID to the site controller, and in which case you are an unauthorized user(because you have either an invalid or spoofed LID), you stand the very real risk of having your radio zapped.

Another way to make the radio a "safe" scanner is to go into the Radio Maintenance program and drop all TX deviation and power values to zero.

With minimized output and no deviation, the system won't hear your radio even if they specifically try to
call, page, or monitor your radio. it will be invisible to the system. In that case, pick any random logical ID, because it just won't matter.

Logical IDs are anything from 1 to 16383. I'd recommend choosing an ID number between 16200 and 16300
as it's unlikely to be used. But the top block (16301 to 16383) contains some IDs that are typically assigned
to some parts of the system that aren't going to be used by a subscriber radio. Best not to use those at all.

That's a good idea. I had set my TX power in Programmer to minimum, but this would guarantee you wouldn't be able to transmit. From what I've read in these forums though, it's generally not a good idea for a newbie to be messing around in RadioMaintenance.

Default Lpe 200 system Group

I am trying to program my lpe-200 with two systems, one with 10 groups and one with 15 groups but the radio only shows a total of 16 groups. Is there any way of changing the total number of system/groups? Information on the radio shows it is capable of 800 system/groups.
