Default Converting Orion low-band: Almost there...

Good eve,

I'm almost there in terms of converting my Orion low-band to 6 meters. My thanks to those who helped me figure out .SC4 files.

I'm still running into few sticking points, though. Help with these would be appreciated.

(1) I'm using ProGrammer version R19, since that's what these radios were programmed with last time. The .SC4 trick to change the band limits worked, but ProGrammer still displays the bandsplit as 35-50MHz, and as a consequence will not let me enter 6m frequencies.

Is there a way I can hex-edit my way around this? Or pull some other similar trick?

(2) Is there a way to get the receiver sensitivity a bit better on the high end of the band? I'll change out components if I need to (I have surface mount tools, and the skill to use them).

(3) The firmware (.BIN file) in this radio is pretty old (Group 30, if I recall correctly). Is there a source for later versions? I'd like to get the thing up to 256 channel capability (it does, thankfully, have a 512K EEPROM).

Thanks in advance.

You do not enter the 6m frequencies, the frequenies are shifted.

A+ 6 Mhz shift would mean that if you enter 46 Mhz into Programmer, when you program it into the radio it would be 52 Mhz...

As far as radio code, sent. However G47 isnt always the best, IIRC Mark suggests G36.

Rx filters are pretty tight, gotta love ge equipment..
