EDACS 500M Help!!!

Hey all,
I have an EDACS 500m radio ready to be put into my truck; and I can't seem to find the power adapter for this radio anywhere. The cable that comes out of the radio is about 6 inches long and had a round green male adapter with 3 prongs on it. Does anyone know where i can get this adapter at???

Also I need a glass mount antenna and cant seem to find where to get that either. So if anyone knows where I can get these 2 items that would be great so I can get this radio in action.

New London Technology has the power cables you need in stock. Give them a call or buy off their website.

Glass mount antennas aren't great. They're also out of style. You'd really be better off with a lip mount
or maybe even a mag mount.

I don't know where you'd get one these days, anyway.

If you don't want to pay up the yazoo for the stock power cable, you can just whack off the green connector and put your own molex or something else on it. I forget for sure what colors are hot & ground but if you look inside at the other end it is obvious---

Tessco carries glass mount antennas. The bigger problem is not knowing whether the glass has a metalic film in it or not (especially for tinted/privacy windows)

For the 500M, the ignition sense is red, the 12V battery is orange. The black is obviously ground. You can cut off the green connector and just add wire and a fuse in line with the red and the black. 3 amp fuse for red and 20 amp for orange.

Well, I pulled the green connector apart and that revealed a GREEN, BLACK and WHITE wire. I have a cigarette lighter adapter in my truck used for a CB radio that takes 13.8v. Can i just hook up that cigarette adapter wires to the BLACK and WHITE wires on the 500m and fire it up, or will that fry the radio?

take off the cover & look inside to be sure; if you get the polarity wrong it would be bad, (Be sure which one is going to the chassis of the radio)

Well the cigarette adapter does NOT have the polarity marked, its just 2 black wires and it works fine with my CB.

When I opened up the 500m all 3 wires, (GREEN-BLACK-WHITE) just go to different spots on the circuit board, so all I am gonna do is just hook the 2 wires up to the adapter, leave the ground disconnected and see if the radio turns on.

OK guys, I am going to hook the 500m up tomorrow; but first i want to get the wires correct.

I found the polarity on my 13.8v DC cigarette adapter so I'm all set there.

Now the wires on the 500m... From what I understand......

- BLACK out of the 500m is ( + )
- WHITE out of the 500m is ( - )
- GREEN out of the 500m is the NEGATIVE GROUND that MUST be grounded to the chassis

Form what I understand I hook up the ( + ) and ( - ) wires accordingly and run the GREEN wire to a GROUND on my chassis.

In Direct Current (DC) terms, I can't imagine a WHITE wire being ( + ), or a BLACK wire being ( - ) so I'm just going to try it out and see what happens, unless anyone here knows anything about this radios wiring and advises me its the other way around.

I've got an extra green power connector and cord that you can have if you want it. Just pay me a few bucks to cover shipping. It's reasonably long.

PM me for details.

On the cord to the vehicle, the colors are red, black, and orange. Black is ground, red is ignition sense, and orange is the transmitter current supply. (Positive.)

OK, if you actualy hacked the green power connecter off of your radio and you're going to hardwire it
to anything, here are your wire colors. If you already tried the above, then I'm sure you've smoked your radio.

'inside the green power connector"
green wire 12V POSITIVE CONSTANT
white wire 12V POSITIVE IGNITION
black wire GROUND

If you're hooking this up soly to a cigarette lighter, tie the green and white wires together connect that to 12V positive.

They do; but sometimes the diode takes the foil or more with it---probably not so bad if it is being fed from a ciggy lighter circuit.

Would anyone be interested in programming this radio for me? I have no intentions to transmit but all I am interested is listening to my local county sheriff EDACS wide system without having to buy a trunk tracking scanner; since I already have a box of these 500M's and a few LPE200's.

What system(s) and groups would you want programmed? I don't recall you mentioning even what county you're in.

It's important that your radio also has the system/group capacity and features required to work on the system(s) in question. Use the radio's features menu to find the feature set and system/group capacity.
