• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have one source inside Ericsson/MACOM/Tyco and one MACOM dealer that thinks there may be an undocumented DRP command to set up an I-Call. This would be via RS-485 at the 37-pin ORCC connector on the rear panel. I already have all button commands and screen-scraping working well to control an M7100 remotely, but its a pain to set up an I-Call. I have to send several digit button up/down commands to emulate a LID being keyed in. The rumor is that the undocumented command simply sends the LID string directly. Probably used by E/// for debugging. Truth or fiction? TIA.

Did anyone have any luck with this? I have dabbled a little and been able to work out some commands but it requires a checksum to be sent after the command. I assume that is why the radio is really slow to execute commands through the hand held controller.

Post a log of the messages between radio and remote. Some folks here may be able to help.

You might want to google x3.28 to understand the protocol, and the checksum. I'm assuming y'all know that it is RS485 at 38400 :)

Ahh thanks for the info on x3.28 I had the correct baud rate and everything, it turns out I was using only half duplex with 1 serial connection and only getting half the command and thus missing the checksum. I have ordered a bit of hardware that will let me see both sides, when it arrives I will begin testing and see how it goes.

The Orion, J725m, E500m and M7100 all talk via RS-485. Simple protocol.

BTW: you can hang an Orion head on a E500m and make them talk. Same protocol. This was done for the transit buses in Honolulu about ten years ago.

Thank you. But is there a list of commands to change system and talkgroups, or pull what's displayed on the head display?

Thanks again
