77 workers laid off at Harris RF Communications
Rochester-based military radio manufacturer Harris RF Communications has let go of 77 workers as part of previously announced cost-cutting steps.
Parent company Harris Corp. announced earlier this month that it was spending between $24 million and $28 million on restructuring costs, but at the time, the company would not say what cuts it was making or over what time frame.
Harris RF announced today that it had completed layoffs of 77 workers, primarily from its Rochester operations. Harris RF now employs close to 3,500, including roughly 2,300 locally.
In a statement, Harris RF said “the current outlook for the business, the actions it has taken, along with ongoing measures to control expenses, will be sufficient … for future success.”
Earlier this month, Harris Corp. CEO Howard Lance said the belt-tightening was due to global economic problems and lowered U.S. defense spending. The military is a chief customer of Harris RF.
