Default Take code plug from one radio and put into another?

Since I've just been quoted $250USD to obtain a new flash upgrade from TAC@tycoelectronics.com, I want to try and save some money.
So, I have several VHF Orions-all with different flash codes in them-some older some newer. Can I take a newer flash and stick it into the older radio without effecting the feature string?
Or do I risk bricking the radio in experimenting?

Just a radio code or DSP upgrade?

Yeah, you can do that. Dump it with radio maintenance, to a file, and then pick it back up when programming the target radio.

Some people say this can be a problem as the .bin isn't exactly the same as the .biz file. But I've never noted any problems when
doing what you're asking.

I've got a pretty good library of flash and dsp files. You might want to PM me.

What you can't do is change the feature set in the radio without paying money for it.

....And GE radios have personalities, not codeplugs...

Here's the GE / /\/\ equivalents

feature code/flashocde = Features available to the radio

DSP = digital decoding ver.

Flash/Host= Firmware of radio

Personality/Codeplug = channel and operational programming

Taking firmware from radio and putting it in another is not recommended as the firmware could be corrupted. What version (group) and radio type (conv/edacs) of the firmware are you looking for?
