Question MPD Experts: Programming Problem!

I recently acquired a few System M-PDs and am having trouble with the programming (cnv ver 2.0).
I read one of the radios and it has apparently been programmed as a Standard model. When I attempt to program it as a System model, cnv complains that the "Radio types do not match. Overwrite (Y/N)?". I answer Yes and the write proceeds. BUT- the radio still does not function as a System model and when read, the radio appears to be, once again, a Standard model.

I did note that unlike my other M-PDs which display firmware revisions of "GPS 03" or GPS 05", the recently acquired units display "MDM 10".

Can anyone enlighten me as to what this means and could it be related to the programming issue?

Thanks,

Larry

the earlier models had a hole punched in the flex to disallow 'field upgrading'. you'd need a 0 ohm resistor (jumper) on the keypad flex to be read as a system model. IIRC, it was around the 5 button, and you could clearly see a hole punched through it. repairing that trace allows it to be programmed as a system radio.

This is coming from a few years ago, so my memory might not be 100% accurate.

Also, IIRC, System MPDs used seperate software to read/write...

Thank you for your reply, I opened one and do not see any hole or other defect in the flex...

What I did notice was that the IC labels are not the usual GE labels with the 19A705226G part number, copyright date, etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

These are Canadian MPD radios and seem to require different software. Has anyone found the required program yet?

I changed out the control board with a known good one, a A4WE04023J with GPS05 firmware, reprogrammed it & got the same result. It still looks like a keypad or flex problem as was suggested earlier. I'm going to test those next.

Also, can someone tell me under what circumstances the Signaling Board is used or required?
Thanks,
