Provoice "key"?

Whats involved in programming a Provoice radio?..Is there a "provoice" key or code needed?.. I realize the RPM and cable are needed

As long as your radio has the ProVoice option, and the system is not ESK, that will do it.

provoice /EDACS are being phased out starting this year (2013) & will completely obsolete by 2015.

New sales are done for yeah. Maintenance contracts for systems like Florida's SLERS are in place and will be honored well into the 2020's.

And some big, new systems like Denver, CO will be around on EDACS for many years past 2015.

But to answer the OP's question, unless there is ESK on the system, program the talk group as 'Unencrypted' and the digital voice type as 'ProVoice' and you're set. If the system uses ESK, use another method to recover the voice (Digital Voice Conversion Method or DSD).

where did you get this info from???? some of the new EDACs radios are from harris or if you didn't know already, opensky is edacs Based

EDACS radios are only from Harris, but Harris has announced end-of-life on many EDACS parts for the IMC, thus end of life on the product. These dates are approximately correct. Harris still manufactures radios with EDACS software, but the infrastructure can't be purchased from them any longer.

All flavors of OpenSky are not based on EDACS, it is an entirely different RF waveform and connects to a VIDA core, not an IMC. Most radios can operate EDACS or OpenSky, but even that requires a radio to be re-booted into OTP mode.
