To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Yeah I'm fuzzy on that... I've seen cutsheets that say it is, and ones that say it isn't. I'm leaning towards no, as I think they brought that into the x300 series... but I'm not sure.

Thanks for that info! No big deal about Phase 2, I was just thinking aloud. What about expanding the SYSGRP feature? My current P7200 has SYSGRP=128 which is a royal PITA (all my previous M/A-Com / Harris radios were maxed out at 65k. I'd gladly pay for a feature upgrade or whatever it takes to expand that.

standard is long published and Harris already has their Phase 2 radios out. P7200/M7200 is not and will not be one of them. Do not believe a 5year old data sheet

Looks like the order number for 512 SYSGRP is MAYR-NPL7Z. Does anyone have the ability or sources to find an approx price on that? It looks like for maximum groups its: MAEV-NPL3R Feature,Max (1024+) System/Groups

just updated our M7300s to Phase 2 TDMA. $1200 to add that feature to our updated feature set. We also added ProScan and the latest XGP firmware . Needed to operate correctly on State Wide MOTO Omnilink system, with some TDMA in Chicago metro area.

Taking a radio to P25 phase II requires XGPR1 or 2 code as well. Harris is releasing XGPR2 for the 7200 series, but I am unsure if they are supporting phase II in those radios. Last I knew, just adding the P25 phase II feature was $250-$300 list, but that was a year or two ago.

greenthumb is correct, if you have P25-T already, adding Phase2 is about 250 bucks.

MAX SYSGRP is $200 or so last i checked.

P7200 supports XGP2+ and Phase2, the M7200 doesn't officially support it. If I get bored some time I might try them see if they will add it.

Thanks for the info, I'm really interested in getting the SYSGRP upgraded. The problem is finding a Harris dealer that will actually help you. I've gone round and round in circles with these guys previously and gotten absolutely nowhere. Add in the fact that I'm in Canada and it gets even worse.

Remember the day when you could call and say "Hi, I'd like to buy this upgrade, here's my credit card #"... and it didn't matter where you were or what regional dealer you were going thru. Oh, those were the days...

Yeah, Harris has gotten super lame about who they do business with. It all seemed to start when TE was acquired by Harris, and right from the get-go, they became ogres about handing out radio code upgrades. The key is probably to find the right dealer who will do what it takes just to make the sale...

Radioman, have you actually received the Phase 2 feature and got it working? I talked to TAC a few weeks ago and was given the answer that it wasnt going to be available. Also had a demo radio that we had Lynchburg try to force the Phase 2 feature bit into (with XGPR2 loaded) and the result required recovering the radio.

No i haven't. I was going off of some rumors I had also heard.

Looking at the official XGP R2 release notes, these are the supported platforms:
XG-75P
XG-25P/M
XG-100P/M
P/M7300 (Except VHF 110W and UHF-LL)
P5500 (Except UHF-LL)
M5300 (800 Only)

Looks like it's not going to happen. Not sure where the rumor started but it sounds like you debunked it with that test! I was going to throw it in my radio because the person I talked to said it would work "for sure". Guess they wanted me to make another paperweight.

Just an FYI I was able to order the SYSGRP upgrade thru a dealer in Texas (Command Communications... super helpful & highly recommended!). The order lists it as 1024 SYSGRP but it actually gave the radio 65k SYSGRP... Price was $215.

My local government is going to a Harris P25 Phase II system and I have a P7200 for volunteer work. Yes the P7200 can be updated to work on a Phase II system, but has to be ship off to a Harris dealer to add and exchange parts what ever, and the cost they gave me is about $1,500. For I not worth it and will not have a radio when they change over, SOL.

Tex, whom indicated that they would upgrade it for you? My contacts directly with TAC and factory service indicate it isnt possible.
