• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

My local government is going to a Harris P25 Phase II trunk-system from an EDACS system, but the new system is not activated yet which I think will have 2 main sites and some simulcast sites.

Will the new system have to have total new talk-groups or used the same talk-groups the EDACS has?

How will the XG-75 and XG-25 radios change over to the P25 system since the radios are already in the field?

Can anyone tell me what the VIDA platforms means and the the digital trunked technology XG75.

thank you!

VIDA is like saying ASTRO, simply a branding for network infrastructure. There is no answer as to how the migration would be done since there are MANY ways it could be done. The most logical way for most migrations is to mirror the existing system and use a migration gateway to have both systems operating side by side. As for the existing radios, they are likely programmed for bith systems.

- It depend, the old TGs could be recreated on the new system or not. There's no requirement that all the EDACS TGs be brought forward into the P25 system. The systems engineer could use the migration as an opportunity to clean house of un/under used TGs or even introduce new TGs.
- You will see new TG numbers however, P25 TGs are assigned an Agency so you will see two numbers in front old TG numbers or totally new TGs. Depends on how much *** pain the engineers and techs want to experience.

-Most likely they will have both system programmed into them. This allows portables to be issued ahead of the P25 system being brought online and also provides a fallback in case of problems (and there are almost ALWAYS problems.
