• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've got a few radios here that have corrupted files that need to be restored, and a few that just flat out have the wrong code loaded. I lost many of my back-up files due to a recent hard drive failure. If anyone has a copy of the following, I'd surely appreciate getting them. I'd rather have .BIZ if there's a choice, but at this point I’ll be happy to take what I can get. Thanks in advance!

S1R05E05.BIN
M2G46402.BIN
M2G33300.BIN
I4R05K01.DSP
G4R06C04.DSP

What is the difference between a .biz and a .bin file, anyway?

And if anyone knows...my highest J version code is J2R10A05. What's the minimum
version of programmer that this code will work with?

I think that code supports P25 trunking, given that it came from a P25 trunking radio.

What I think this forum could really use is a matrix that shows what all these different codes do and support, and what
radios they work with.

A .bin file is straight radio code and a .biz is a compressed form. The .bin you see could have come straight from Macom or it could have been read out of a radio and contain errors. No way to tell. The .biz are straight from Macom and as such are far less likely to contain errors and should be used over the .bin. The code inside for any given version is identical.

Programmer 18B supports the P25 trunking. Technically you would need R19A to access any new options in that code, however you can use earlier versions to program the radio just fine. The personalities in the radio and files on your hard drive are not backwards compatible among the generations of Programmer. For example a personality written in R20 cannot be read or opened with R19 or earlier. To determine what version of Programmer your radio was programmed with look in the Revision menu under PRS VER or PERS VER (depending on radio/flash) take that number and subtract 14. Programmer R20 shows a PRS VER of 34.00, R19 would be 33 and so on. RPM version 1 starts at 50 and RPM R2 is 51.

When new options or capabilities are added they are incorporated in a new flash code. It seems that more flash codes are released to correct operational issues though.

Is there a way to force a given dsp file into the radio even though the software thinks it's incompatible?

Case in point...F7R03A01.dsp, and a "40 option" radio. The radio code is J2R10A05.BIN.

Currently, that radio has G6R06C04 DSP in it.

How can I force the software to put the F7 DSP into the radio? It thinks it's not compatible,
but ALL the options are turned on in the radio so by all accounts it should take most ANY
revision that is intended for a 7100.

Can I do it just by changing the name of the file to something beginning with?
Like R7R03A01.dsp?

If you have an I&Q P7100 you must use the G series DSP codes. As such those early version radios cannot do P25 trunked. There are physical differences in the radio as well as the code and they have to line up or the radio won't work.
