Default Any Maui Info

Wondering if there is any update on the Maui P25 system that is listed in the DB as under construction.

Is local public safety still on the LTR system?
and is there any must-have frequencies when visiting the island?

453.25 103.5 is AMR, dispatch and base station comm. Fire does not auto aid on all medical calls.

About everyone else is on the TRS.

I've just spent a week on Maui. Not a lot of time for listening, but I did some searching with my PRO-106. No sign of anything P-25-like on the public-safety channels, though I'm not sure what the Johnson system will sound like in P25.

I am hearing FM traffic on the "rebanded" analog trunking system. And as others have commented, although the scanners won't follow the LTR Multi Net II system, just scanning the frequencies as conventional channels is effective enough. I put each area's frequency group in a separate bank. The system seems to simulcast at least some traffic on each area's system.

Each area has one channel that sounds like a dead carrier. It's probably carrying subaudible data, directing traffic to the other channels. I listened to a few of these for maybe 15 minutes, and didn't hear any voice traffic, but given what I've read about the Johnson system, I'm sure they could carry voice traffic if the other channels are busy.

Which, most of the time, they're not. Maui's small population is pretty peaceful, and there's not a lot of radio traffic. A few domestic disturbances, some noise complaints, a fire call or two. Nothing EMS related - I'm guessing that's on some other channels I didn't program. Come to think of it, though, I haven't seen a lot of ambulances running around, either.

The ham radio repeaters are also pretty quiet. It would be fun to have an HF station and "be DX," but so far not enough room in the luggage for that.

AMR is not on the trunk system, that is why I gave you the AMR frequency.

As KN4AQ stated, there is little if anything to listen to on the island. I listened for about 15 minutes one night before bed, and didn't bother with the radio for most of the trip. Theres too much to do on Maui than play with the scanner anyway. Thanks for the replys.
