Default Experimental Station 507.3 kHz

Last night/early morning I received my first (longwave) experimental amateur station. I believe that since I received it so easily, here in urban downtown Richmond VA on a Radio Shack DX-400 using a simple Delta loop mounted indoors, that a lot of other folks should be able to hear it too.

The station is WE2XGR/6, is located in upstate New York and transmits on (approximately) 507.3 kHz. I believe its a 200-watter. I'm sure the operator, W2ZM, would also love to get other reception reports.

You can enter a report here using this link, and also read more about the experimental station group.

Well Larry it's not an "experimental amateur" station but by the callsign an experimental license. US experimental callsigns resemble Amateur except the suffix begins with X while no Amateur callsign does. While Bob's callsign is W2ZM he operates as the sixth station under the WE2XGR license. Nice haul from the Finger Lakes district of New York but you really don't need a whole lot of power to blanket the continent on that frequency, especially with a clear channel CW beacon.

Something caught my attention, WD2XSH/23 - K2ORS but no frequency is given. Warren is in Wayland MA and would be a nice catch. His Amateur vanity callsign is in memorial of Jean Shepherd, the inimitable storyteller on WOR 710 NY and his Christmas Story movie is just as famous. BTW, don't try licking any poles even in Richmond this time of year or you'll end up like Ralphie. (;->)

Post edit;
Somebody is confused, the above information was from the log but is incorrect or out of date. The WE2XGR license effective 11-05-07 was issued to Warren and this link on the site indicates he operates as WE2XGR/1. http://www.500kc.com/other_us_stations.htm Further note that while the license allows a maximum of 200W ERP that's not any indication of what the actual power level is. It is worth mentioning that with the exception of a quarter wave vertical which would be a VERY tall tower antenna efficiency is very low. I wonder if these guys are actually doing any better than QRP which makes for an interesting bit of listening.

Hi Warren, thank you for the clarification and the extra information. I was pleased to receive something like this on 600 meters mainly because of the type of receiver I was using. A DX-400 isn't really one's first choice for chasing lowfers! I will say that I'm getting a lot of unexpected mileage out of this radio on longwave. Surprisingly good on HF too. Best $75 I ever spent -- if only the seller knew...

Will see what I can snare tonight.

Warren, I just read your last post edit. The final character in the call I received was definitely a "6". _....

Or am I confused about your post edit?

Thanks.

Edit: I misread your post edit, where you refer to the call in Massachusetts. Never mind! Sorry.

We're playing tag here and you're not confused, Bob operates as WE2XGR/6.
