Stapleton Intl Airport TIS MW .530
Ok, this was from clear back in 1994. The City of Denver operated a low power TIS transmitter, broadcasting traffic and parking information for the now-defunct Stapleton Intl Airport.
Does anybody have info on where this transmitter was located and the broadcast power? I used to pick this up on a regular basis on my car radio across the Front Range when I lived in Brighton, Co.

If you've seen some of the LF beacon antennas used at airports, you'll realize that they're not all that conspicuous. Most have significant base loading and large capacity hats. They're extremely shortened vertical antennas.
I don't know any of the specifics of Stapleton ATIS, but I suspect it was either right on the airport, or more likely, it was a locator/outer marker (LOM) beacon five miles out on one of the ILS systems.

I was told it was right at the airport, and was only about 10 watts; but that was many moons ago.

Not bad for 10 watts when I could hear it across the Front Range.

That seems kinda weird, I remember it would get crackly when I was playing with the car radio as my dad was driving away. Anyone I knew that knew how it really worked is dead now.

Good catch, Clyde.
It looks like they used those all over the place, and they were 10 watts--
