Lino, I once owned a earlier model and was extremely satisfied with the performance. I would have liked to see provisions for a battery charger and factory installed industrial quality NiCads or NiMh cells. Also, simple case thumb screws (As commonly found on Mil/Commercial grade electronics equipment) would be nice.

Nice radio!

I own a Palstar R30CC and it is an excellent receiver. If you like a lot of bells and whistles you might not like it. But the receiver has excellent sensitivity and selectivity along with great dynamic range. The audio is powerful and crisp sounding when hooked to an external speaker. I selected this receiver because I live a mile from a broadcast station and three miles from another. It has the best image rejection and dynamic range for a receiver in its price range. I only wish it had a CW filter. Check out more reviews on eham.net

Yes I have installed the batteries. I like to take it to a nearby park and use about 800' of wire for an antenna. But at the park I use a cigarette lighter adapter to power the radio from the car.
Enjoy your new receiver,
Jim

Hello, I had a Palstar R30C, which is basically the same radio inside as the R30A. I can say with confidence that the Palstar won't be as good as the Icom IC-R75 for utility Dx'ing. Stick with the R75.

I spent a pretty penny for my R30C and was largely disappointed. Sure, it was excellent for MW Dx'ing and yes the audio was great. But it wasn't that good for SSB aeronauticals, marine or Ham Dx'ing. At least not compared to radios like the R75 or FRG-100. Not to mention mine (R30C) drifted all over the place, requiring constant retuning. But who knows, maybe I just got stuck with a lemon. Like I said it was really strong on MW however.

Good luck.

Over the years Palstar has made many revisions of their R30 model. I believe the later models are much improved over the earlier models. I purchased a R30-CC back in 2007. I have no issues with frequency drift and utility monitoring has been great.

I haven't been using mine much lately, but I DO remember there being some difference in performance depending on what power supply I used. Different wall warts led to different performance on longwave. I just toss that out there as food for thought if anyone has issues with that fine radio.
