Default Need help fixing my HF receiver

Hi, folks!

I've got a JRC NRD 545 that has the tip of a 3/4" audio cable stuck in the headphone jack. It literally came off the cable as I was trying to pull it out. I've tried to surgically remove it using tweezers, screwdrivers, and other pointy objects but it hasn't given. I've removed the cover and didn't even want to attempt pulling out the circuit boards and things since I'll inevitably ruin.

I was wondering if there's a radio repair savvy person in this forum who lives in easter Massachusetts who is good at doing SW-related surgical extractions like this that might be able to take this piece out for me at a price you name. It would probably take you less than five minutes if you didn't have to take the whole thing apart. Yes, I've asked this same question in the MA scanning forum.

Please PM me if you can do this or know of some company in eastern MA or NE that does this sort of thing. Thanks!

Suzie

Can you grab it and it's stuck? or can't you get a grip on it?

a metal rod that will fit the hole super glue on the end. might hold enough to pull out, or epoxy putty.

Wink

You may be able to get this out yourself with a pair of needle tweezers and/or some surgical forceps.
Both of these items are easy to get at a medical supply outlet or...if you know anyone in the nursing field?

This is probably your best bet, but you'd have to *very* careful -- too much glue on the end can ruin the jack. Don't try this unless you have steady hands.

I think the best tool would be a dental pick. There's a pick that has a small hook on the end - this would probably do the job. You might be able to find it in a well-stocked drug store.

If you just don't feel comfortable then try to find an electronics repair shop (TV, etc.)

You probably have a HRO store (HRO Ham Radio Outlet Worldwide Supplier of Amateur Radio Electronics Equipment) nearby - they would likely know of a good repair place.
