Eriepascannist, it's possible you may have heard Cuba's Radio Rebelde on 710 khz. They're a Cuban radio station with an extensive network of MW transmitters in Cuba. I've frequently heard their SW outlet on 5025 khz in the 60 Meter SW band. They play a surprising variety of Cuban and international pop, as well as other Cuban music. And they also seem to have announcers taking phone calls. Even if you don't understand much Spanish, it's interesting listening.

Default Recent Michigan BCB logs

I've been hitting the dials heavy during sunrise skip looking for south pacific stations. With that pursuit came these new western domestic logs from recent mornings. Logged in Michigan on the Perseus SDR + phased BOG antennas:

560 KLZ Denver, CO. - 1100 UTC 9/10/2012 - Poor under dominant WIND with website mention "560thesource.com" (KLZ's website) and partial call letter IDs.

710 WTPR Paris, TN. - 1025 UTC 9/8/2012 - With oldies music and frequent IDs between songs as WENK/WTPR, live local DJ between songs! Dominant signal.

740 KATK Carlsbad, NM. - 1100 UTC 9/6/2012 - Easy listening music then nice TOH ID with call letters, city and "America's Best Music" followed by ABC News.

740 KVOX Fargo, ND. - 1059 UTC 9/9/2012 - TOH ID with "740 The Fan" slogan and FOX Sports, mixing with WVLN (who is usually heard here at this time).

790 KFGO Fargo, ND. - 1100 UTC 9/8/2012 - Good TOH ID and into CBS News over WBBM IBOC.

810 KLVZ Brighton, CO. - 1100 UTC 9/9/2012 - With very weak TOH ID and into religious program.

810 KGO San Francisco, CA. - 1059 UTC 9/10/2012 - Faint but clear and on top of the channel with local weather forecast and legal ID at TOH. 810 KHz KGO San Francisco MW DX heard in Michigan Perseus SDR - YouTube

1010 KXXT Tolleson, AZ. - 1100 UTC 9/9/2012 - With local religious programming and interview, Phoenix area churches mentioned with addresses, spots for "familyvaluesradio.net" which directs to KXXT's website. Promo for new show "Arizona At Work" with a couple of nice call letter IDs. Very good signal for about 10 minutes.

1210 WSBI Static, TN. (city name is fitting) - 1059 UTC 9/10/2012 - Spanish language ID at TOH, with city and state, call letters read in English, poor.

1230 KWSN Sioux Falls, SD. - 1059 UTC 9/9/2012 - Poor, with FOX Sports Radio, TOH ID and mention of Sioux Falls and Backyard Broadcasting (owner).

The icing on the DX cake was this reception of Tahiti on 738 KHz, the best I've ever heard from my location: 738 KHz Polynésie 1ère Tahiti Received in Michigan on Perseus SDR - YouTube

Australia was also heard on 702 KHz, albeit very faint, but also the best I've heard it here (it's usually only a weak heterodyne). You'll need headphones for this one: 702 KHz ABC (2BL) Sydney, Australia Heard in Michigan Medium Wave DX Perseus SDR - YouTube

The short answer is yes.

Poke around here for a while: Weblink

Especially check out the audio files.

Being on the east coast, you've got it made. Us here in the midwest pretty much need big antennas and lots of luck.

570khz Radio Reloj, Havana, Cuba @ 0500z in the car. Well on top with man and women announcing news interspersed with the famous "R R" in morse code.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE, BrailleNote))

This week I built a homemade loop antenna out of phone cable looped through a square of ,,pbc pipe, then mounted on a wooden base so it will spin. I also brought out an old stereo from our basement and hooked the antenna to that. The stereo is a monster but it has a digital tuner, which is better for me (being blind) so I know what freq I'm on.

So I tried it out for a short time last night and without really trying too hard I logged WHO out of Des Moines at about 700mi, my farthest reception to date. WINS NYC, WCKY Cincy, and WFIR Roanoke were among my other logs, as was KMOX with basically no noise/static at all. I was also able to null WOR on 710 and could faintly hear that foreign music station I previously mentioned for just a split second, but then it was gone. I'm going to keep chasing that thing til I get some calls or at least a recording, but even with WOR nulled down as far as it will go the other station was barely audible at best.

So far I love my homemade loop! I'll have to sit down one of these nights and really give it the time it deserves.

The ability to null signals is crucial for MW DXing, and it looks like you've mastered it with your new loop - congrats and keep the logs coming. I'm sure with patience (also needed to DX MW), you'll ID that station under WOR.

Kilo, I hope I do eventually. I was unable to null out unwanted giants with my old colck radio so this is quite helpful for my Dxing. I'm still mastering the patience part of it but I'm learning.

Boombox thank you for the possible culprit signal. It very could have been Spanish, although I can't be sure. However, it was definitely a pop-sounding song. I'll keep chasin' it and see if I hear it that good again.

No biggie-just logging one for fun

I'm also hearing KALL-700, with ESPN sports and mentions of Salt Lake City and Utah in its ads. Weak signal at 700 miles. First logging of it, usually if I hear anything on 700 khz. I hear the religious station in Oregon.

XEWW-690 also is overtaking CBU Vancouver tonight, which happens when conditions are strong to the south -- Mexico and Canada start battling it out. :-)

Kilo and myself logged a new one last night on 1710. Radio W807 with rock & roll (mostly 80s) and an old radio show.

Details on that station? Impressive! Did you catch it with the loop or the wire?

Loop, too much noise on the wire. Not much more in details I can tell you. In fact not much out there on this station except it has been around for a long time. Hell we're not even sure this is a part 15 station or not, though more than likely not. But hey you never know......

Here is the 2nd vid. Not the greatest as far as audio. But notice also someone 500/hz high starts tuning up on 1710 around vid marker 5:14. You really need to keep an ear to this part of the band. It can become interesting. Especially as more folks are aware that DXers are tuning in, so to say. You never know

That was cool! Now I have to keep an eye on it too I know kat has logged a few rare ones between 1700-1800kHz which is practically unheard of far as I know.
