Default Icom F30GS WX Tone Alert

I would like to have my F30GT to alert to the weather service tone when I am at work. Presently I have to switch to 162.550 mhz and then back to the local fire department channel for a quiet monitor. If I program the two tone squential to 1050 and 1050, then set a channel for alerting, will it come alive when the WX service sends the storm warning alert? Anyone tried this?

Bob

It should work. You may have to use the Group tone, which is just one tone. The lack of a gap between Tone 1 and Tone 2 may throw off the decoder. I have my mobile programmed that way, but in the short time it's been set up that way, the WX alert tone hasn't gone out with me in the car.

I've got it set for 1050/1050 with the Group tone default timer at 3.0 seconds. If nothing else happens, I am going to leave it on Thursday and see if the test tone activates it.

Thanks for the reply.

Like I said, should work. I only know of Motorola users doing this, I don't recall anyone specifically saying they got their Icom radio to do it, but it's the same logic. Worst case, you'll have to do some tweaking of the settings to find out what works. You could set a second radio up to TX the 1050 Hz tone as a 2-Tone and troubleshoot at your leisure. Waiting for the NWS test is tedious.

I am going to leave the F30GS on for the weather test tomorrow barring any preconditioned brain damage caused by lack of sleep. I temperarily misplaced my Minitor 5 in the back of the squad truck this morning and had to quickly program the two tone into the F30 for our page out. Woke me up twice-once when the county paged our squad instead of Squad 7, then code 3 for EMS back up on an unconscience patient. The tones don't sound very impressive but it works. Does the F3061 have the same audio alert tones or is it upgraded?
