Default Icom's New F9011

So it looks like Icom is about to release the new IC-F9011 series as direct competition to Motorola's XTS series.Interestingly, they are only releasing it in VHF. Details and pictures here: IC-F9011 Series VHF P25 Conventional & Trunked Transceivers - Features - Icom America

Yes unless things changed Icom informed me the release would not be until Sept. They have been working out some issues before the release.

They have been publishing the release of this radio for sometime.Maybe they bumped it up lets hope. They also have the trunking mobiles

Not true, the 400-470 MHz UHF version has FCC approval (will be called the F9021), as well as the VHF version. 450-512 MHz (will be called the F9023) needs approval which may be slowing them up a little bit. Might as well release them all together for a series like this. The F9011HT (high-power trunking version with support for 2 control heads) also has approval. The F9511 mobiles are probably going to be Class II Permissive Changes of the F1721 series, and carry the same FCC ID as with the F3061/F3161 series.

I've heard rumors about the programming software being a little quirky which pushed them back a bit. I'd rather them take the time and put out a GOOD radio than to rush it out the door and have problems. It'll save them money as well if they don't have to repair a bunch of duds. Quality Control is a good thing..

The P25 trunking is compatible with current 9600 baud systems? If so, I need to look into this.

Any ideas on MSRP?

It should work with all true P25 Trunking systems. That excludes Motorola SmartNet and SmartZone systems which happen to carry P25 digital voice on certain talkgroups. Obviously to include the Motorola variants Icom would have been shelling out big bucks to Motorola for the rights, and we'd see an even higher price tag because of it.

In another post I listed the official price list MSRP's from the June 2008 price list. Here they are again, prices include a Rapid Charger:

F9011B (No keypad, no display) MSRP: $2,530.00
F9011S (Limited keypad, LCD display) MSRP: $3,210.00
F9011T (DTMF keypad, LCD display) MSRP: $3,605.00

The digital and trunking functionality is not built-in so you won't need an option board or do anything special to get digital going. P25 Conventional and Trunking out of the box. Also keep in mind these prices are from June 2008 when this radio was first announced. The actual price may be higher or lower almost a year later.

Also keep in mind that this is MSRP, not the price you're likely to pay, especially online. Dealer cost is typically 40% of the MSRP and they mark up around 15-25% from online retailers. Figure around $2,703.00 for the F9011T based on the current sales strategy.

The reason its delayed on the release has to do with Motorola Trunking connections they are getting a few bugs out of them. They will be 100% compatable
