Default FPP HT's

OK which Icom HT's are FPP (Field Programmable Portable).

I have heard rumors that some Icom models can be moded or set-up like an HT1550 and you can change the Freq/Tone/etc. but not the name (and that is ok).

In addition of the models that can do FPP what does it take (or the steps) on how to do the mods?

The F30G\F40G Series can be made FPP-enabled.

Interesting, that could be handy for my Icom F40GT portable radio. What is the process or method for enabling FPP on this line of radios?

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,

I don't know much about it but I do know that it involves something called "maker reserved," try googling around for that term and see what you can find...

Thanks, the "Maker Reserved" key word did the trick. My previous Google search attempts for Icom F30G and "FPP" were not getting anywhere.

The "Maker Reserved" instructions worked great with my Icom CS-F30G Revision 3.0 cloning software. So I now have an Icom IC-F40GT portable with DEALER SETMODE access that provides Field Programmable Portable capabilities. The FPP interface is a little clunky for changing settings, and I found myself prone to inadvertently adjusting settings more often than not. But it will at least be handy for quick adjustments in the field that previously would have had me grabbing a different HT or wishing I brought a computer along.

Thanks,
Jeff KC8NNO

So does this apply to ALL Icom portables or just the 40. I am looking for something in the VHF band that can be FPP. Also do you need the keypad or can you do it without the keypad?

Icom Ic-3160's
Icom Ic-3161's
Icom ic-70's
Icom Ic-30's

Not sure about the IC-f50's. You know by the software, its all in the software........

Trust me, you want the keypad. And no, because you can do it on certain mobiles as well.

I'm an Icom dealer. I won't give out any FPP information to anybody who hasn't signed the NDA regarding it, because I don't want to lose my dealership, but I will tell you that the F50 can't do FPP. No portable can unless it has a full keypad.
