Default Programming Brand New Radios

Hi all,

I have a brand new radio on the way. What is the procedure for programming it for the first time? Do I need to read the radio first and then modify the file that I just read or is it OK to just go right off and write to it?

Thanks!

Read it first just to be sure the model type is identical and that the radio firmware revision is compatible
with your software. New radios ship with the latest firmware, which can require software upgrades.

Fortunately, Icom doesn't do firmware/software upgrades very often.

Default yES, What radio?

Always save your original read folder, its your revert file in case something goes wrong. Beware as the other folks have said firmware revisions on these radios make a significant difference. But, they are and few between. The firmware revisions will cause you to reprogram your frequencies and settings, just so you now.
