Default Icom IC-A4 Aircraft Portable Radio

Hello. If this is the wrong forum I apologize and please direct me to the correct place.

I am the Communication Officer of a FD and we are involved with ARFF for a local airport. I am having problems with a Icom IC-A4 aircraft portable radio. I don't know a lot about Icom radios.

Up to six months ago we were able communicate fine with the airport tower from our Firehouse, approximately 1 mile away with the Icom. Now we can't. The radio just came back from the shop and it checked out OK. We can receive fine. As far as I know the radio is programmed correctly and nothing changed at the Tower.

Any thoughts or ideas? Thank you in advance. Henry

Default Hmm

Any changes in the fd structure or property layout of the airport that could cause radio block. Did you try any other air frequencies to see if the tower can hear you on them. Those are simple things that come into mine. Is their any indicators that let you know that your transmitting? The pep is kinda low (power output on the radio) from ground level. I would imagine in the environment you going to hear the tower on great distances for obvisious reason, height. But on the opposite end simplex you going to need to be in line of sight to tx back to them. Is possible the frequency is off, battery is no good or weak so instead of 3.7pep your only getting 1 pep. I'm not to sure about aeronatucal radio, but those things that come to with Land Mobile which is similar in nature.
