ICOM F5061 Programming
Hi. I'm looking for a little help programming this radio. I've never worked with the software before. It seems to be up and running but I'm not sure where to go next.

Open the Memory Channel folder, go to zones and enter the text for the zones (banks) you are going to use. Then you can click on the zone names that appear in the left column under memory channel. When you click on the zone, you then be able to program the individual channels you want in that zone.
Use HELP from the top menu. Go to CONTENTS then start at Memory Channel, etc. All of the programming instructions are there.
Do a little at a time. It is a lot to absorb. I find that if I save as Ver 1, then do some more and save as Ver 2, etc it helps, because you can always go back to a good version if you screw something up.

Thank you. Is there any reason why the HELP menu will not open? It says something about not being available in this Windows version.

I don't have the HELP file either. Also, does anyone happen to have a manual on what all the programming does? I've got my 5061 VHF programmed and running fine, but I sure would like to learn some short cuts and what other things do.

Need help with PTT ID
I figured out the basic channel programming. I'm intersted in programming the PTTID system within the MDC. If I understand this correctly, using this means that when you transmit on one radio, your ID pops up on the other radios? Any experience doing this with this software?

I wish there was a printed help for programming the radio with the software. Like maybe in steps.

Or even what each column is like with the icom v-8000. There is receive freq, offset freq, transmit freq, offset direction, offset reverse, operating mode, name, tone mode, ctcss, rxctcss, dcs, dcs polarity, tx power and skip.

I recently received an F5061 radio with many frequencies programmed. I don't want to delete these frequencies, but would like to scan only about 6 of them. The remainder I would like to be able to call upon demand if necessary. There are three zones programmed, and the frequencies are in two of the zones. I have the software. I moved the desired frequencies to one zone, but cant get the radio to only scan what I want. Any help, or a templete showing how to do this would be great.

Unless you have a bootleg copy of the software, there is a help file that will tell you every thing you need to know about each item.
Open the program, press F1 and it brings up the main help file.
If you have a question about a certain setting, highlit it, do a right click, click on help and it brings up information for just that option.
Also, you can not do scanning across banks, every channel you wish to scan needs to be in one bank and then make that a numbered scan list. Again, info in the help file.

My software isn't bootleg, but I did have to install an additional windows component to get the help to work. Lots of good information. Thanks. What is the difference on the software with the scan list column and the assign column. If I want scan list 1, do I place a one in the scan list column? Then do I select scan list-1 under the assign? Thanks for the help.

If they are using a Windows vista it is a known issue about the help files not working its an easy fix how ever. This has nothing to do with "bootleg" software!!
You can set up multiple scan list. A channel can be added to multiple scan list. So you could create a scan that scans everything and then a second scan that only scans selected channels
You can also set up separate banks and use those as your scan list.
You scan use the Scan Add/delete to remove channel from your selected scan list also

This is not correct. You can scan across banks with these radios. I have a 6061 (the UHF version of the 5061) in my work truck, and I scan all kinds of stuff in different banks. I have one bank for commercial, one for ham, one for my local schools, one for FRS/GMRS, etc., and I scan stuff on several banks at the same time.

Hello! I am also having a little trouble programming my new f5061. My radio is a version 2.9.2, and my software is a version 4.9-are they compatible?
I am experiencing the same error message as described when I attempt to write to the transceiver, but it is allowing me to read it just fine. Thanks for any help!

You're probably going to need to update the firmware (latest firmware as of the date I'm writing this is 4.8 or 4.9)

Alright, this is what I was afraid of.
Being a programming "Noobie", what would you recommend (how to accomplish this)?

hyrailer Now 'new' is this radio? Is it 'new' to you or did you get it from a dealer 'new' since the first of the year?
If you can 'read' the radio, then there should be no reason that you can not 'write' to the radio.
All Icom radios bought 'new' from dealers since Jan 1 2013 require a new software package. The current version for the 30xx, 40xx, 50xx, and 60xx radios is CS F3020-4020-5020-6020 ver3.3.
If the radio is older then Jan. 1, 2013 but is new you, then the older software will work just fine.

I purchased the radio and software new, but I'm sure the radio was from stock. The software came with the radio, and I would have thought they would be compatible, but that was an assumption (an incorrect one).
After posting my reply, here's what I did: I contacted an Icom dealer who had his office about an hour away. I was able to bring it to him, and he tried to write to the radio as well (I didn't need to bring my software). After an attempt at writing to it, he uploaded a newer version of firmware to the radio, and tried again. It worked just as intended, and after getting it home, it worked as intended with my software, and I'm good to go!
While somewhat annoyed at first, the fix was relatively painless. Thanks for the help!
