• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I'm trying to test the vibrator function of this radio I just aquired.

In the CS, on the menu under COMMON....KEY & DISPLAY, there is a setting there for OPENING VIBRATION, and the help file tells me that if set to ON, the radio will vibrate for the duration of the display of the text in the OPENING TEXT field. Well, this one isn't vibrating when I turn it on. I've been thru the CS, and I don't see anything else that would flat disable the vibrator from working.....unless I missed it of course.

Any programming gooroos out there can lend a hand?

Sounds like you may have the non vibrator version. Both are F50V's, look and function the same except no stored voice or vibrate. An easy way to tell,.. shut the radio off, press the up arrow and the P4 button together and hold while turning on the radio. When the radio boots up, it will say REV 3.4 or 3.6 or whatever firmware is installed, then it will scroll through some other things. If you do not see the word VIBRATOR when its scrooling it is not a Voice and Vibrate model. Hope this helps.

F50V follow up

Ok, w/ver 3.4 firmware, will an upgrade to 3.6 enable vibrate functionality? I haven't even opened it up yet, so I don't know if the motor is even there or not.

...and the next question is how is a f/w upfrade accomplished with an F50? Is it downloadable?? If it's got no motor, then it's a moot point........

The firmware has really nothing to do with it's vibrate functions. The non vibrate version units do not have the motor installed in them.
