Default F521 Wont break squelch

hey all, I have an Icom f521 that I have used to monitor the VHF fire tone out channel. For some reason the radio will no longer break squelch when traffic comes across the channel. When I press and hold the monitor button the voice traffic sounds perfect. I have the programming software and have the sql level set to 60, anything lower and all I get is white noise. I have tried with both the rx tone off and set to what is shown in the database here. What am I missing? Thanks.

Go into your program and removing the tone completely then do a reprogram and run that for a day or two.

If the radio recieves the voice this way, then try putting the tone back in and see what happens.

Usually the only time that you will have the problem the way you discripe, is if the tones have changed or the radio itself has developed a problem.

Were they already running narrowband prior to your inability to receive? I have noticed many users were changing tones (generally to a DCS code) when they changed to narrowband.

Older Icom radios deal with 2-tones on an 'Off-Duty" basis: enabling tone reception mutes the channel until a tone sequence is decoded. You can use a custom 5-tone to get around it.

New transmitted squelch code is also a valid reason.
