If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

What are you definding as "busy signal"? Are you recieving hash noise, seeing a icon that looks like a signal?

Is the radio setup with open squelch and a lot of noise?

How long has this been this way?

When was the last time the radio was serviced by a radio tech with a service monitor?

Could be several things going on.

Ans: Busy signal as indicated by an icon of the radio face.

Are you recieving hash noise, seeing a icon that looks like a signal?

Ans: When squelch is turned down you can hear static type noise. The icon shown is termed a "busy Signal" in the manual.

Is the radio setup with open squelch and a lot of noise?

Ans: Normally it is set to where a signal is required to break squelch.

How long has this been this way?

Ans: Just started messing with it.
When was the last time the radio was serviced by a radio tech with a service monitor?

Ans: No idea when it was last serviced,

Could be several things going on.

I'd appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Likely one of two things you need to try:

Adjust the squelch.
Make sure mic clip is grounded. You can check to see if this is the issue by touching the metal button on the back of the microphone to something that is grounded to the chassis. If the radio was installed correctly, you should be able to touch it to the bare metal of the radio body. If the indicator disappears, then there is your issue.
If it doesn't, could be a bad mic cord, or could be a different issue. But it's a good easy thing to check first.
