To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have an F4161 which I have successfully programmed. It has an IDAS option installed but I am only using the radio in analog mode.

The radio will scan and will stop on a carrier. But when the carrier drops, the radio does NOT automatically restart scanning after, say, 3 seconds. I need to manually restart the scan using the programmed scan key.

I have spent hours trying different settings. I also used a default "codeplug" just in case the original had some incorrect values hidden away.

With all my other Icom radios I have never had a scan resume problem?

Any ideas?

Maybe its firmware related? The radio is running v2.9 firmware and I am using the latest v5.0 software. Maybe I should use an older software version? Or update the firmware?

Thanks

Under Scan setting, Cancel CH, make sure it is not selected with Start CH/talk back or anything that is selected to talk back setting. This will cancel the scan upon RX of a channel. Select TX CH. That should work. Also, set your resume timer under scan setting. I usually set it to 4 or 5 seconds depending on how long you want it to hang.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, TX CH and 5.000 for Resume is already selected.

I'm thinking its possibly a firmware issue - possibly due to using "early" v2.9 firmware and latest v5.0 software...but I've never had a scan resume issue with all my other Icom stuff

I might try installing v2.6 software?

I tried using v2.6 software and the scan will still not automatically resume after the carrier has dropped - I have to start the scan manually.

Again, I uploaded a default "freq file" when I installed v2.6.

So maybe v2.9 firmware has a bug?

Anybody know how to upload new firmware?
