If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all!

Please refresh my mind. If I remember correctly I saw some information about new IDAS Icom radios with 12.5 kHz/IDAS 9600 bps compatibility. It should be able to listen NX96 trunking voice conversations. But I missed model # of these radios. Tried to find them at Icom web site, but no luck, because specs have nothing on IDAS 9600 or 12.5 Digital.

Please help.

I don't know about Icom's IDAS as well as I do Kenwood, but last I knew, Icom's only did 4800/6.25KHz NXDN.
Kenwood is the only one that I know for sure that does 6.25 as well as 12.5KHz on -most- of their NexEdge radios.

If Icom has started adding 12.5KHz, that would be good to know. I know they are both starting to offer version C and D trunking on each others radios.

That's good to hear. That was always one of the compatibility issues between Kenwood and Icom. With both now being able to do 6.25 and 12.5 as well as both flavors of trunking, this will be good for business.

Now if Icom would just hurry the frick up and start building an 800MHz radio, I'd be able to use them on my system.

NXDN™ Trunking | What is NXDN™ ? | NXDN Forum Website

Type C trunking uses a control channel. Type D trunking uses a distributed control style.

Kenwood NexEdge uses Type C. I have a NexEdge system and use a single control channel for the system. The system changes the channel used every night to spread the load/wear and tear around.

Icom IDAS uses a system more like LTR where "home" channels send out data messages to the radios.
