• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Thought I would share this with you guys. We have a Kenwood Nexedge trunking system running, 12 sites, 37 channels here in Cape Town, South Africa.

When we heard about Icom making radios that would be compatible with the Nexedge type c network we were quite excited.

I received the Icom portable, IC-F4360DT portable in July and have been playing with it since then and have had no issues at all, its all 100% compatible (Voice, status, SDM text, GPS, Encryption)

We received our mobile, IC-F6360D, last week and have installed it and all seems good as far as Interoperability is concerned with the Kenwood Nexedge trunking radios

Today I decided to open the radio's up and have a look inside, and I noticed that the ASIC chip in the radio is a Kenwood chip, which I found quite interesting. The software is also very much "Kenwood" looking as compared to Icom looking software.

Anyway its nice to have different option's of radios to offer our clients

That's good to hear.

I've got a single site NexEdge trunked system, but it's on 800MHz. Until Icom gets into the 800MHz radio business, I'm having to use all Kenwood gear. If they ever do, I'd love to give on a try.

Icom/Kenwood Ownership

From what I understand Icom and Kenwood are strengthening their partnership. In fact, I just heard for the first time this week that they each hold stock in the other's company (about 10%). Fun fact.

I agree, the quality is not as good as Kenwood, but its not far off. I would much rather sell Icom than this Chinese rubbish that is flooding the market
