• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

First question to you is: The messaging you received "programming has failed" was that message sent from Windows or was it from the Icom software program?

Have to ask. Where did you get the radio and the program? Is the radio a USA version or EU version?

Each radio has a different software. If you have the correct software, the first thing you need to do is READ THE RADIO before you try and do any thing.

Here's some info and help...

There seems to be some confusion about a few things. First, because your radio is a F4162DT (the "2" indicates it is a radio for Europe). If you bought a F6061 (the "1" indicates it is a radio for the US). These radios are different in some parts of their design. One important difference is narrowband (US) vs wideband (EU).

Second, Icom only makes one software version for world-wide use for each of the radio model series. The software will program both the US and EU versions. So, for the F3161 series, the software covers both US (F4161, F4162, & F4163). In addition, the Icom software also covers the mobile radios in the series (F5061, F6061, F5062, F6062, etc.). Here is a list of the Icom software and radios https://quality2wayradios.com/store/Icom-programming-software-guide (this list only shows the US models, but as I said, Icom software works for all models in a series - EU included).

There are a number of things that could be going on. It's impossible to trouble shoot it in a thread like this. I would suggest you contact either the dealer you bought the radio from, or Icom tech support. If you are in France there is an EU Icom tech support there (don't have the EU number but I'm sure you can find it online). In the US you can call Icom Technical Support Monday – Friday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM (PST) at (800) 253-1498 or (425) 450-6087 (shown on the Icom America website). They are very helpful, I speak with them all the time.
