    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Anyone know how to take apart the radio? Firstly I want to remove th scrambler board, see what the p25 board looks like and also clean the internal speaker if it even needs cleaning. I am able to remove all screws that I can see on back plus the 2 awkward ones by the battery terminals. The back shielding still doesn't come off unless there is more screws I need to remove.

This is something that has been at the back of my mind for a while and want to rest the thought of just how to remove it to get to the inside. Motorola portables are easy to take apart and replace parts. This icom is China logic? Aka complicated!

So only the belt clip screw and antenna connector nut needed to be removed. The top piece then slides up and off then two more screws and then the case can be removed. It was actually very easy to do. The two middle large screws suck and are on odd pitched Philips head. Ended up messing one up so need to find replacements.
