Default RH77CA Diamond on 800 MHz?

Thank you to those who answered my previous questions on Diamond antennas.

Since a lot of you are using the Diamond RH77CA on your handhelds, how does it receive on 800 MHz?

Thank you.

I wonder how well the Diamond RH951S Tri Band antenna works for receiving 800 and 900 MHz since it is tuned to transmit up to 1295 MHz?

That one must be fairly new. I haven't been able to find anyone who has tried it out yet.

Bummer!

I've never been a big fan of a broadband HH antenna for 800 unless its in an urban environ. Look at the pictures people here have of their shacks. You don't need 20 radios but dedicating one radio to 800 and another to a lower spectrum is what I do at home. In the car the only mobile mount tri-band I have found that works decent on 800 is the Larsen "Special"

On my pro 96 I use the rs800 antenna. I tried others including the diamond RH77..

I scan 800 digital and a few vhf high for fire.

The RS 800 was a clear winner for me because I was more intrested in the 800 and the fire frequency towers were close by.

The Diamond did pull in the fire freqs better but the 800 suffered significantly plus the Diamond is a long bugger and when carried inside my coat it tended to want to infiltrate my nose when I looked down.

If you have some friends with different antennas then expierment and pick what works best overall.

You should try antennas for several days because the propagation may change day to day between bands.

If you wear your scanner on your belt your body can really attenuate the signal from certain directions.

If you want the best performance on 800, get an antenna cut for 800. Dont waste your time and money getting multiband antennas. This is the one I use on my Pro-106:
800 mhz Scanner Antenna radio shack pro 164 96 97 - eBay (item 140292829995 end time Jan-11-09 11:57:17 PST)
works slightly better than the RS one.
