Default Icom R-71A Dies

Folks,

I just sold an Icom R-71A to someone, which when I shipped was working perfectly.

The buyer indicates that it's dead on arrival. When plugged in and powered on, he hears a small "pop" from the speaker, but the radio doesn't power up at all.

I've heard that these radios have a small battery that dies and causes the radio to not work. Could this be the problem?

Very odd, since the radio was working perfectly when I shipped it.

If this is the probable problem, any ideas who can fix this at minimal cost?

Lindsay - I can not comment on the model you are having problems with but below

and all my ham friends as well. Good luck

If it is indeed the memory battery, just replacing it won't fix it. It must be completely reprogrammed, which means a trip to Icom, unless the folks at MTS can do the reprogramming. 73 Mike

Default r-71a

I have a used board here for that exact radio. the battery is good on it. The only reason I took it out was to put the Piexx board in. It is here doing nothing, if it can be of use let me know.
