Cost vs. sales most likely. Too bad too. iCom does better in the amateur markup... er... market.

Care to post a url that clarifies this?

I see in the latest Icom Communication Receivers Catalog sent by Eric Meth, that Icom still supports the R1500 and R2500 receivers (which are still a "PC Controlled Receiver"), so they aren't really totally discontinued.

Are you just refering to the models with out the Remote Head?

Default Icom

The Icom web site still shows all 4 the PCR and R models. Then again it all depends on how often they update their site.

Effective immediately “ALL” ICOM PCR products have been discontinued. After back orders have been shipped all stock of the IC-PCR2500 25 (blocked version) is depleted.

For what it's worth, I queried Icom directly regarding this rumor, and this is the reply that I received:

quote:

David,

I have not heard of that rumor, and it is as that a rumor. I have no knowledge of when or if we are going to discontinuing the PCR-1500/2500.

Heres some Icom Product History tidbits that stand out in my memory:

The W32A dual band transceiver was discontinued then brought back...I read somewhere the mold for the cases broke causing the brief discontinuation before being reintroduced.

Then on the R8500 the front panel went through some internal redesign due to parts NLA and only the blocked version survived.

Then there was the T82A that never made it to the market after a brief bit of fanfare. Universal Radio has an explanation for that on their website.

Now for any words or rumours out of Dayton about the ICOM lineup...?

I would wholeheartedly go out and buy an PCR2500 if Icom bothered to support P25 trunking.
They are losing a decent segment of the market with their refusal to integrate trunking support into their products.
