Default Icom R5 vs RX-7 ????

Anyone have (or have owned) the R5 and had used or owned an RX-7?

Just curious what you thought about the RX7 vs the R5 in receive, options, etc. Actual pics of an RX7 would be great.

Thanks,

Matt

Popular Communications did a review of the RX-7 a couple months ago.
Receive ratings were good.
It has a completely different user interface that looked pretty good.
There was a statement about audio being on the low side which turned me away from it.
This month they are reviewing the software for it.

I can't read it online can I? I like it that Monitorting Times publishes their reviews in pdf online for all to read. Very nice!

Pop Comm should do the same

Default ICOM R5, R20, and RX7

The R5, RX7, and R20 don't receive the 867-868.9875 area of the 800 Mhz Frequencies. So if you have any non trunked systems on those higher frequencies you will not be able to hear them, I currently have an R5 and a VR500 by Yaesu and personally I prefer the VR-500 over the R5 for ease of programming and frequency coverage in the 867-869 Mhz band.

The RX7 is definitely a better scanner than the R5 was. The user interface is much, much better. Sensitivity is good, although as mentioned the audio is a bit low. Yes, Icom do block out a large part of the 800MHz band. If that is likely to be a problem just order an RX7 from the UK or Australia. We don't have that problem!

My RX7 receives well on 867-868.9875 area not sure about the r5 or r20 but my RX7 definitely reveives 867-868.9875mhz

Could it be that you have the European/Japanese model, not the US model?
