VR-500 HF / SSB performance for a handheld?

Just curious what (if any) performance you guys are getting on the VR-500 on HF and/or SSB?

I have owned both the R5 and a Yaesu VR-120D.

I am thinking about getting another R5 or possibly the VR-500 if the performance is decent.

FWIW, I have two VR500's and they work great for SSB as well as the usual HF monitoring - Never travel without at least one :-)
