Default R-5 signal drop out

Hello everyone, I thought I would get the opinions of the experts here before I contact Icom. I have a 3 year old R-5 which for as long as I remember every 6 seconds the audio and signal of any station, any band or any mode it just drops out completely. Total silence. After the 6 seconds it come back. Has anyone had this same experience? Thanks.

Sure it is 6 seconds, and not 5 seconds.?

Make sure you do not have "Priority Watch" mode enabled (pages 32 / 33 of manual).
The Priority Watch frequency is checked every 5 seconds.

Check and see if you have your "scan pause timer" set to 6 seconds(pg. 31 of manual). It can be set to 2 to 20 seconds or unlimited. Set it to unlimited. The "scan resume timer"(on the same page) is the timer you need to set if you want a channel to stay on a few seconds to hear a response after a transmission is finished.

Thank you for the suggestion a29zuk and Comint. I didn't have the pause timer, resume timer or priority watch on but your suggestions may me take a look at what was on. I found the weather alert was on ( which I like to keep on). I turned it off and it stopped dropping out. Problem solved. I'm glad I asked my question here. You both were a great help. Thanks very much.
